What is the Videotapper Prototype in Cameraman Tower Defense?
The in-game card usually reads Upgraded Videotapper Prototype (sometimes shortened to Upgrade: Videotapper Prototype). Community text also writes Video Tapper, Videotapper, or Videotaper—we mirror the card spelling here and link the long-form Upgraded Video Tapper Prototype label on the all units list.
This page mixes frame readouts from Ru11zTD (Can Upgraded Videotapper Proto Solo INSANE MODE???, no usable narration—lyrics-only captions) BucketMan’s short showcase, and Elite Titan Tv Man’s level-by-level panels, plus Vaulted Values X (VVX) voiceover from How To Get Every Unit, Tier List After Update 3, and How To Beat Insane Mode (no VVX screenshots—burned-in subtitles). Upgrade math uses our arithmetic where noted. We have not re-tested any of it in-game.
| Field | BucketMan max panel (~50s) | VVX tier list (~61s narration) |
|---|---|---|
| Rarity / type | Mythic (Update 3 prototype) | Mythic splash DPS carry |
| Max damage | 1500 | Not split per hit |
| Max cooldown | 0.2 | — |
| Max range | 35 | 35 |
| Max DPS | 7500 (overlay) | 7500/s |
| Cash to max | ~21,000 (showcase text) | 21,000 |
| Placement cost (hotbar) | $600 (late-run HUD) | Not stated |
| Placement cap | Not shown in kept frames | 6 (Insane survey narration) |

BucketMan’s editor overlay at Level 2 (~20s) reads 500 damage, 18 range, 0.8 cooldown (625 DPS per overlay text)—single-target beam DPS, not splash. Elite Titan Tv Man’s panels in the ladder below fill in Levels 1 and 3.

Full upgrade ladder (frame readouts, Elite Titan Tv Man, zp5wimll8hE):
| Level | Range | Cooldown | DPS | Upgrade button to the next level | Elite video time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 14 | 1 | 150 | $1,400 | ~91s |
| 2 | 18 | 0.8 | 625 | $3,500 | ~96s |
| 3 | 22 | 0.6 | 1,666.67 | $6,000 | ~101s |
| 4 | 29 | 0.4 | 3,750 | $9,500 | ~106s |
| 5 (max) | 35 | 0.2 | 7,500 | Max Level | ~122s |
Our arithmetic: 1,400 + 3,500 + 6,000 + 9,500 = 20,400 for the four upgrades, plus the $600 hotbar placement cost gives 21,000—the same total VVX and the BucketMan showcase quote for maxing. The Level 2 panel lists damage (500) instead of DPS; the 625 comes from the creator’s overlay text and matches 500 ÷ 0.8. Elite’s burned-in caption calls the last panel “LVL 6”, but the panel itself reads Level 5 (Max Level).
Why does the last upgrade double attack speed instead of damage?
Vaulted Values X says the Videotapper Prototype’s last upgrade adds no damage per hit and doubles attack speed instead (lRtpetkMJZs ~61s). Ru11zTD’s panels match that pattern in frame readouts:
- Level 4 (~240s): 1500 damage, 29 range, 0.4 cooldown, $9,500 upgrade button (GxP9fYm7YYI).
- Level 5 max (~330s): 1500 damage unchanged, 35 range, 0.2 cooldown, Max Level button (GxP9fYm7YYI).
Our arithmetic: 1500 ÷ 0.4 = 3,750 DPS at Level 4 versus 1500 ÷ 0.2 = 7,500 DPS at max—cooldown halves while damage stays flat in these frames.

BucketMan’s level-by-level overlay shows the same final jump: Level 4 1500 damage at 0.4 cooldown, Level 5 1500 damage at 0.2 cooldown with 7500 DPS text (UPl6usQ1Bhk ~40–50s).
Has the Videotapper Prototype beaten Insane mode solo?
Vaulted Values X reports a solo Insane win with six Video Tapper Prototypes—the per-unit cap they list—plus four Scientist Cameramen (MhtBS1AEEwo ~251s; ss-cPRq3kBA ~31–61s). In the Insane survey chapter they say the video tapper prototype is proven solo—their wording for the six-copy win, not Ru11zTD footage (ss-cPRq3kBA ~154s).
Ru11zTD’s Insane attempt (frame readouts only—no narration) shows the same economy pattern:
- Green Scientist Cameraman donated you +$500 / +$1000 / +$2000 / +$2800 messages during the run (GxP9fYm7YYI ~180–420s).
- Six black Upgraded Videotapper Prototype models firing cyan beams, four smaller white Scientist models, Units: 10/15 on Insane (GxP9fYm7YYI ~420s). Our arithmetic:
6 + 4 = 10placed towers matches the HUD denominator—this supports VVX’s six-plus-four lineup but is not a placement-cap banner readout. - Wave 50 start with Boss Toilet 3.0 already on the path in front of the Videotapper line (GxP9fYm7YYI ~435s); its floating health text is too small and compressed to quote a number from. Vaulted Values X narrates about 1,080,000 HP for Boss Toilet 3 on Toilet City (ss-cPRq3kBA ~340s)—the auto-caption prints “1,80,000”, which we read as 1,080,000 because VVX adds that the boss needs roughly 12,000 damage a second over a minute and a half of path (
1,080,000 ÷ 90 = 12,000, our arithmetic). A clearer bar is on the duo mode guide: Elite Titan Tv Man’s single-account Insane run reads 271,700 / 1,080,000 at Wave 50.
The Ru11zTD clip ends at Wave 50 start—we do not have a Match Won popup from that file. Treat Insane solo as VVX’s checked-win claim reinforced by loadout and late-wave footage, not as a pixel-perfect clear time verified on this page. Portrait’s cheapest Titan Cameraman route and Yahaha’s Titan ladder on the Insane mode guide use different units; the Insane speedrun guide targets three-slot timers instead of six mythic copies.

Editorial suggestion (untested): If you mirror VVX’s sample, budget four Scientist Cameraman slots for donations before spamming a sixth Videotapper—Ru11zTD’s run shows Scientists still on field at Wave 50.
How do you get the Videotapper Prototype?
Vaulted Values X says the basic coin crate mythic slot rotates Titan Cinemaman, Upgraded Titan Speakerman, Glitch Cameraman, Upgraded Brute Prototype, and Upgraded Video Tapper Prototype at 0.1% per pull when that slot is active (the 0.1% line is at MhtBS1AEEwo ~32–64s, the rotation list at ~219s). VVX also says Glitch Cameraman, the Brute Prototype, and the Video Tapper Prototype come together in a paid pack, but all three also roll in the coin mythic slot, so check that slot before paying (~532s). Summon timing and pull in 10s coin savings are on shop and crates and the all units hub.
Our arithmetic (at least one mythic-line pull in n independent 0.1% opens): using p = 0.1% and 1-(1-p)^n:
| Target chance | Opens n (rounded up) | Coins at 100/open |
|---|---|---|
| 50% | 693 | 69,300 |
| 90% | 2,302 | 230,200 |
| 99% | 4,603 | 460,300 |
VVX narrates ~90,000 coins on average for one mythic at 0.1%, “an average, not a promise” (MhtBS1AEEwo ~64s). They add that the Double Luck pass doubles only slots under 10% and stacks with a luck potion, giving a ~30,000 coin mythic average with both (~127s).
Videotapper Prototype vs Brute Prototype: quick verdict
Vaulted Values X says Upgraded Brute Prototype hits 9,000 splash DPS for about 41,000 cash to max, while Videotapper sits at 7,500 DPS for 21,000 (lRtpetkMJZs ~30–61s). Brute peaks later and costs roughly twice as much to max; Videotapper is the prototype they tie to solo Insane proof in their win database. Side-by-side upgrade footage and Brute’s Core Flame AoE timing are on the Brute Prototype page—we do not duplicate that comparison table here.
| Unit (VVX narration) | Max DPS | Cash to max (VVX) | Insane note (VVX) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upgraded Brute Prototype | 9,000/s splash | ~41,000 | Strong late; not their solo-proof example |
| Upgraded Videotapper Prototype | 7,500/s | ~21,000 | Reports solo win at 6× + 4 Scientists |
Can you pair it with Brute as the Prototype Duo?
Vaulted Values X reports a Brute plus Videotapper team cleared Insane in 10 minutes 34 seconds (ss-cPRq3kBA ~154s). They note the only prototype loss they found used five to seven units with not enough cash to upgrade—not a loadout count we verify frame-by-frame. Full duo elevator rules and failure context are on the duo mode guide.
For pre–Update 3 tier labels that omit both prototypes, see the unit tier list gap callout and the update log mythic row.
